About Laurel

I have been dancing since the age of two. I trained at the Aida Foster Stage & Theatre School for six years, appearing at the London Palladium with Frankie Vaughan and many other West End Shows in London.

Starting Out

After I left Aida Foster I decided to continue my dance training at the Pineapple Dance Centre in Covent Garden studying modern Jazz with Arlene Phillips Classes. Here I formed my own dance troupe and appeared in several Venues around different Night Clubs.

With all my training behind me I involved myself with exercise and keep fit, teaching at health clubs and then becoming a personal fitness instructor. I even conducted a private workout with the Miss World contestents in 1985.

Line dancing

I have been teaching line dancing for 17 years and have had classes in Mill Hill, Edgware and more recently in Borehamwood. I have also choreographed dances to Rock Country, Disco, Irish, Latin and Salsa style music. I do Cabaret demonstrations at Weddings, parties and many corporate events. I choreographed dances for The Linedancer magazine 2000 and 2008 Choreography Competitions and after being short listed at the regional heat in November 2008 went to Southport in Liverpool on 11th January 2009 to take part in the final.

Out of 15 teams taking part in the 2009 final we came joint runners up and my dance “Sweet Caroline” was published in the March 2009 issue of Linedancer.

Dance Fitness

In 2009 and following on from line dancing I started a class called Salsa in Line, which was based on the moves and steps of Latin style line dance but taught more like a fitness class than a dance class. It was popular and a complete success and so during this time I trained to teach Zumba which was a natural progression from my own Salsa inspired routines. By the end of the year and now fully qualified I started to teach Zumba initially in Edgware and then later also in Shenley. In 2013 I trained, qualified and now teach Fitsteps to those that love the dancing they see on the television and want to combine it with getting fit and staying fit!

Over the last few years I have had several opportunities to perform Linedancing on National TV. These included the Food and Drink program and the Channel 5 program Night Fever. The most recent was a programme called “The Interview” which featured a failed job-interviewee and Dr. Rob Yeeung (a business psychotherapist) who wanted to boost his candidate’s image and confidence.

The task for this 23 year old student was to learn and then teach a dance before performing it at my Edgware Club, which he did with flying colours.

Almost Hollywood

Some time ago I was asked by Warner Brothers to teach a troupe of professional dancers a dance I had just choreographed called “Daisy Dukes” from the soundtrack of the film “Dukes of Hazard”. We performed it at the Premier of “Dukes” on the Red Carpet outside the theatre in Leicester Square and also at the after-show party with Jessica Simpson.

Away from Dance.........

I live in Shenley with my husband Ronald and have been happily married for nearly 48 years. I have three daughters Lucie, Charlotte and Amie.

I also have two beautiful grand daughters, Sydney Angel and India and two grandsons, Tyler Romeo and Malakai Levi to add to our ever growing family. In my spare time I enjoy going to the theatre and reading. I also enjoy cooking and watching cookery programmes on TV and hosting dinner parties and bbq's for friends and family, showing them my culinary skills.
